Sons to the late sungura icon, Ketai Muchawaya have begun lining up live performances in a bid to revive their father’s music. The siblings, Itai (30) and Simbarashe (28) said it has always been their intention to fill the void left by their father who was the leader of Simba Brothers.
“We grew up in a music al family and it has always been in our blood to follow our father’s footsteps and even so go further,” said Itai. The duo has managed to assemble a six member band and also retain the services of former bassist of the original Simba Brothers, Craig Nhekairo.
“We are very fortunate that we have been able to work with Mukoma Craig who used to work with our late father as he is there to lead and guide us because he has been around and knows how it is done,” said Simbarashe.
The brothers believe they have what it takes to fill their father’s shoes as they said they are not entirely new in the showbiz. “Although we were young when our father was holding performances, sometimes he would allow us to be part of the team and somehow it feels like he always wanted us to follow the same path as his,” said Itai.
Simbarashe and Itai have managed to record a six-track album which they have christened “Ngoma Ndiyo Ndiyo” which is set to be released on March 20. The upcoming artistes said they had wanted the album to come earlier but were hampered by financial problems as well as dilapidated instruments.
“We would have wanted to release the album earlier because we had finished working on it but there were financial constraints, “We also had problems because of the musical instruments we had since we just continued with the kit that was left by Mudhara but now we have managed to add on a few gadgets to complement what was there,” explained Simbarashe.
The album has songs such as “Makandigona”, “Simba Kasongo” and “Ndakabvira Kare” as well as the remake of their father’s hit “Zuva Nezuva”.
