Tongai, known by his legion of fans as Dhewa, will headline the show that will see several other musicians performing.
Dancehall artiste Winky D, Kapfupi, the forgotten Maskiri, First Farai, the R&K duo famed for Tina, and Mambokadzi are some of the musicians who are expected to thrill revellers at a family show to be held this Saturday in the Harare Gardens.
Dhewa’s fitness will be put to test when he strums the guitar for the first time in more than six weeks.
In an interview, Dhewa said the effects of chemotherapy for his non-Hodgkins lymphoma cancer were severe and he recently had to be hospitalised for six days.
“My blood levels had gone down, so I had to get a blood transfusion, but I am feeling much better now,” he said.
But for all we know, it is not surprising that Dhewa, who is just coming out of hospital, should head straight for the stage.
Like the proverbial cat that has got nine lives, there is no doubt that the sungura crooner will last more than a distance.
His fans expect him to rock the crowd like no other.
The promoter of the show, Joseph Munyebvu, said he was expecting a high-octane show.
“Dhewa is just unbelievable and full of surprises. I know there are a lot of fans who are going to come, not because they want to be part of gig, but they want to see if the brother can lift a leg after all the noise about his health in the past weeks.
“They are in for a shock,” he said.
While Dhewa is expected to make a grand comeback on the stage, there is no doubt that he needs to slow down on live performances, and concentrate on recording more albums and promoting his clothing label.
For dancehall lovers, they should just expect nothing short of fireworks when Wallace Chirumiko, aka Winky D, jumps on stage to sing one of his many high-voltage tunes that obviously will include Vanotaura, Mababe Ekusabhabha, Bhachi neJean and Green Like Mi Garden.
