The rise of comedian Mabla 10

that voice.
He is not a singer and does not wish to become one.
“In life a person should know where his talent is, I don’t have a gift for singing and I don’t want to become one,” he said.

The name Mabla 10 is synonymous with acting and so far the man is riding high with his latest play “Bag Rabvaruka 2.”

The play features some of the country’s best musicians such as Sulumani Chimbetu, Peter Moyo and Jah Prayzah.

Kurima said his stage name Mabla 10 came about during his school days at Glen View High One.
“My friends gave the name Mabla because of my comical acts and I also wanted to be a good football player… in fact I was a midfielder playing the famous number 10 that’s how the number 10 came to be prefixed,” said Mabla.

Mabla fronts a drama group called Budiriro Arts theatre and has been on whirlwind tour of the country acting in schools.

“I get my money from acting in schools,” he said.
Mabla has produced four dramas namely “Bag Remhosva,” “Vamwe Vanhu,” and “Bag Rabvaruka 1 and 2”

Kurima wrote and directed the comedies, which were recorded by Sights and Sounds International. He is not new in theatre circles, having starred in numerous street theatre and television productions. He has also featured in Jah Prayzah’s videos such as “Sungano” and “Maria”, which was voted ZTV’s outstanding video of the year a few months ago, as well as the hit video “Gochi Gochi”.

He also doubles up as the musician’s co-ordinator. Born on August 23, 1986 in Mbare, Kurima’s passion for acting first manifested itself while he was still at Budiriro 1 Primary School before further nurturing his talent at high school. In 2000, the artist joined Voice of Wisdom led by Tawanda Masarira popularly known as Kahembe in acting circles and together they ventured into street theatre.

This saw the duo producing plays such as “Mwana Dofo”, “Pastor Kahembe”, “Bag Remhosva” and “Vamwe Vanhu”.

Kurima then formed his own group, Budiriro Theatre Arts, last year after parting ways with Voice of Wisdom.
