The teacher with a chance to win Coach of the Year award

HERENTALS gaffer, Kumbirai Mutiwekuziwa, could be among the leading contenders for the Coach of the Year award.

He has transformed his side into a competitive unit which even qualified for the Chibuku Super Cup final.

They can no longer finish in the top four this season but that cannot take away the impressive way they have performed.

The Students still have a chance of finishing tied on points with Highlanders, should they win their final game of the season, and Bosso lose this weekend.

Herentals are currently in seventh place with 48 points while Triangle, who are above them, are on 50 points.

They beat both FC Platinum and Dynamos in the league and knocked out the champions in the semi-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup.

The tournament’s final will be held at Baobab on November 20.

Only a few people tipped the Students to go very far in both the league and Chibuku Super Cup. Their final league game is a date against ZPC Kariba this coming weekend.

“We had a good season, but not the best,” said Mutiwekuziva.

“Looking at how we express ourselves in games we have played so far, I had targeted a top-four finish.

“It is now not possible.

“But, reaching the Chibuku Super Cup final has compensated for our disappointment.”

Mutiwekuziwa wants to write his way into the history books by securing the Students their first piece of major silverware in the top-flight league.

“I am looking forward to a good outing in the Chibuku Super Cup, so that it makes up for our failure to make the top four.

“Now, that we are in the final, I feel we must secure it for the Herentals’ family, which will be a historic feat in any way you look at it.”
