VINTAGE enthusiasts and cultural aficionados will gather at Haddon ‘n’ Sly in Bulawayo tomorrow for a nostalgic celebration of fashion, and memorabilia.

Dubbed “The Vintage Parade”, the event will bring together members from various vintage movements from Plumtree, Bulawayo, Makokoba, Gwanda and beyond to network, bond and celebrate heritage.

Attendees will explore a curated collection of vintage items that capture the essence of bygone eras, from classic gadgets and iconic fashion pieces to nostalgic food items that evoke cherished memories.

One of the organisers, Father K from Western Khazins, explained the event’s significance as a way to celebrate the joy found in the “little things” of everyday life.
“This movement is a collaboration among different vintage groups, including Western Khazins, Vintage Movement and Makhokhoba Vintage Movement,” Father K explained.

“We’ve invited groups outside Bulawayo, like Plumtree’s ‘Vintage Nation’ and Gwanda’s ‘Cotton Eaters.’ The idea is to unite through what we love most and to create an annual event where we celebrate the 1960s to 1990s culture. If all goes well, we plan to establish a Vintage Festival,” he said.

Father K added that the movement aims to “introduce our passion for vintage to the nation” while also addressing social challenges like drug abuse affecting the youths.

Key leaders, including Gabz Hotter Fire, Welsh the Stylist from Vintage Movement and Ngwiza from Makhokhoba Vintage Movement, are collaborating with Bonwell from Vintage Nation and Mr Scotch from Cotton Eaters to bring this vision to life.

The event will feature engaging activities for all ages, from discussions on traditional crafts to classic recipe showcases in homage to past eras. Vintage-themed attire will be encouraged, with prizes for the best outfits adding a competitive, festive touch.

Cultural preservation will be at the heart of this celebration, as organisers hope to inspire younger generations to appreciate the rich significance of their heritage. — @MbuleloMpofu
