With the realisation that Thekwane is among the oldest schools in the country, the state of the buildings have deteriorated and hence call for major facelift.

With the support of the Responsible Authority, which is the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, the school embarked on major developmental projects spearheaded by the School Development Committee. (SDC).

The former students, Thekwane Alumni Association (TAA) have also played a major role in renovating the school. They opened TAA chapters in different places; notable ones are the Bulawayo Chapter, headed by Mr Horace Ndubiwa, the Harare Chapter headed by Mr Joshua Nyoni and the United Kingdom Chapter headed by Mr Mphoko.

The TAA has sourced paint to spruce up the image of the whole school, donated an E-Granary library, Whites boards and a lot of school furniture.
The Zimbabwe National Army (Mzilikazi Barracks) has also provided manpower to assist the school free of charge. Below are some of the projects which were undertaken in the past few years.

Projects
1.Staff house – an 8-roomed state of the art teachers’ cottage was completed in 2016.

2.New Girls A’ level hostel – A new state of the art complex that will accommodate 70 Lower 6th and Upper 6th girls is nearing completion.

3.Nursery – A nursery was established at the school courtesy of our sponsors Old Mutual and Nyaradzo. It supplies neighbouring schools & community with plants like gumtrees, duranta and fruit trees.

4.Girls & boys renovated toilets & baths – these were completed in February 2018.

5.Layers Project – There are a 100 layers which supply the kitchen with eggs for students & staff.

6. Broilers Project – We have a thriving broiler’s project where we breed about 2000 chickens per term. These are consumed in school’s dining hall.

7. School garden – The school garden supplies the school with vegetables like chomoulier.

8. School truck – A 6 tonne UD truck was purchased from Ford, Harare in 2016 to cater for the transportation of various bulky school materials.

Outside the classroom

Our brilliance is not limited to the classroom only. Above are our Ambassadors in Chess who represented Zimbabwe in the African Schools Individual Chess Championships in Harare last year (2017).

Shining overseas in the United States of America, another Thekwane is soccer star Nyasha “Bhobho” Dube. He got a scholarship in soccer after excelling academically in the year 2016 to the North-eastern University in Oklahoma. .U.S.A
