KAIZER Chiefs striker Matthew Rusike believes there is more to come from him and has dismissed as untrue reports that he had been living in the shadows of countryman Kingstone Nkhatha who joined SuperSport United a few weeks ago.“In football it depends who is doing better in the team’s formation and it doesn’t mean that those who are on the bench aren’t quality players, we’re all the same.
“I’m determined to capitalise on the opportunity given by our coach Stuart Baxter who has been a father figure to us. He always tells us to work hard as each individual is very important to the team and we’re all equal,” said Rusike.
The Warriors striker said it is always great to score a goal especially for a big team like Amakhosi.
“The goal I scored against Botswana’s Township Rollers, a team coached by former Warriors and Highlanders FC legendary winger Madinda “Juluka” Ndlovu, really motivated me,” he said.
Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite scored a late crucial goal in the referee’s optional time to make it 2-1.
Rusike said the goal he scored would give him enough confidence to start banging goals and help his team win the league and do well in the Nedbank Cup and in the Champions League.
Rusike said his countryman Willard “Salt & Vinegar” Katsande had been rock solid in the team’s defence and Ovidy Karuru is working hard at training and will be playing in a short while.
“He is a great player and his football brains will be vital to the team”, he said.
