KARMA has a wicked sense of humour.

Two men from Magulanjengwa Village 1 Tsholotsho, in Matabeleland North Province who were arrested for stealing the village head’s donkeys sparked a dramatic scene in court as they cried foul play over the buyer whom they stole donkeys for.

The incident blasted to smithereens, the notion that there is honour among thieves.

Sijabulile Sibanda (21) and Nkanyiso Ndlovu (25) expressed deep regret after they were brought in court for stealing donkeys, bellyaching to the magistrate that they were cheated by the buyer, for whom they stole donkeys.

“The buyer cheated us; he only gave us a cellphone and did not give us the money as we had agreed,” said Ndlovu

“Please give us one last chance. I promise, we will not ever repeat the same offence.” I only committed the offence because Ndlovu asked me to accompany him,” Sibanda said.

Sibanda (21) and Ndlovu (25) appeared before Provincial magistrate Abdenico Ndebele, facing stock theft charges. They both pleaded guilty to the offence.

They were sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, of which 6 months were suspended on condition that they do not commit a similar offence within a period of three years.

The remaining six months were suspended on condition that they perform 210 hours of community service.

Circumstances are that sometime in December 2024, Sibanda and Ndlovu went to Ntulani grazing area and stole two donkeys belonging to the village head.

They then sold the donkeys, and the donkeys were recovered from the people who bought the donkeys from Sibanda and Ndlovu, through investigations.

The value of the stolen donkeys is US$300 and all was recovered. The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of Sibanda and Ndlovu.
