A Kwekwe taxi driver had a nightmarish experience at the hands of two thieves who wanted to steal his car after he was made to drive his car while one of the suspects held a wire tied to his neck from the back seat as the other suspect barked instructions.
The victim, Moses Pencil, was made to drive under such circumstances from just outside Kwekwe Central Business district where the suspects stopped him and tied his neck with a wire before they ordered him to drive to Mbizo Section 16- where they wanted to drop a woman, suspected to be their girlfriend, whom they were travelling with when they hired his car, a Honda Fit, in the city centre.
Police spokesperson for Midlands province, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday said: “After dropping the woman who is suspected to be a girlfriend of one of the two suspects in Mbizo section 16, they ordered the taxi driver to driver to Mbizo Four Shopping Centre.”
Insp Mahoko said Pencil who was struggling to drive with a wire on his neck then lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road while on the way to Mbizo Four Shopping Centre.
“The two suspects dragged Pencil out of the car, one of them still holding on to the wire which was on his neck. The other suspect searched Pencil’s pockets and took cash amounting to $25, his driver’s licence, identity cards and a Nokia Cell phone. They dumped him by the roadside before they got back into the car,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said the suspects failed to start the car and returned to Pencil who was still lying on the ground to inquire on how to start his vehicle.
He said as they were quizzing Pencil on how to start his vehicle, one motorist who spotted Pencil’s car stopped and called out Pencil’s name.
“The suspects then fled from the scene and Pencil later picked himself up and drove his car before he made a report to the police at Mbizo Police Station.
The suspects are on the run and police are hunting them,” he said.
