Third big fire in Bulawayo in 3 weeks: 15 cars burnt to shells

A TOTAL of 15 cars were yesterday reduced to shells at a workshop in Mzilikazi after the workshop caught fire.

The loss is expected to run into tens of thousands of United States Dollars.

It is suspected the fire emanated from garbage that a group of children were burning, at a nearby dumpsite.

One of the mechanics at the workshop Mr Abrain Sibanda said they are short of words and have no idea how their clients will react.

“We don’t know our next step from here because the fire was started by children who live near our workshop. We have been calling our clients since morning and they seem to be understanding but you know how it is. It’s a really big blow for our workshop because no one will ever trust our workshop again,” he said.

He said it is unfortunate that their workshop is not insured so they have to start from scratch.

The fire is the third major one in the city, in as many weeks, after Mutizi Flea Market in the city centre burnt down and a fuel tanker exploded last week in the Kelvin Industrial area.
