Nominees for the third edition of the Midlands Music Awards (MMA) are out with DJ Stavo, Guluva 7, Takura and Daniel Mhere leading the pack.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Cathedral Hall, Gweru on August 27 under the theme: “Celebrating Arts, Culture & Music Excellence in the Midlands Province.” Entertainment on the night will be provided by the nominees and Zima15 Midlands province winners – Shingi Mangoma and Oskid.
DJ Stavo’s Mwedzi Muchena which features Oliver Mtukudzi earned him two nominations for Best Collaboration and Best House Music track. Takura bagged two nominations for Best Music Video and Best Single for Zino Irema.
Guluva 7 has been nominated in the Best hip-hop music category and Best Collaboration for track – Daza To Topola, a song he worked on with Cal_Vin.
Also with two nominations is Daniel Mhere who is gunning for Best Traditional Gospel Music and Best Newcomer for Heavy Rain.
One of the best producers in the country, Tony G who is now with ZiFM will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution in the Midlands arts industry.
Organiser of the awards, Mavis Koslek, said preparations for the ceremony were at an advanced stage.
“We’re not yet sure if the awards ceremony will be on August 26 or 27 as we’re still in talks with the Cathedral Hall people. However, it’ll likely be on the 27th,” said Koslek.
Voting began yesterday. To vote, one has to like the MMA Facebook page from which they will be directed to the voting poll.
