CAPS United skipper Phineas Bamasi said their league match against ZPC Kariba on Sunday will be part of the party to celebrate their leader’s success in his political ambitions.
Club president Farai Jere won the right to represent the ruling ZANU PF in Murewa West in the next parliamentary elections.
Bamusi will lead his troops into their latest Castle Lager Premiership battle at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The two sides have the same number of points in their first two assignments after managing a win and a draw.
Interestingly, both teams are still yet to concede a goal and this will even make this fixture more exciting.
It’s also going to be Darlington Dodo’s first time facing the club which he almost won the Castle Lager Premiership title with just two seasons ago.
However, Dodo’s men collapsed, with the Promised Land in sight, as they lost their final two games against Ngezi Platinum and FC Platinum.
Both sides have started this campaign with a noticeable change in their form.
They all spent the better part of last season drowning in the relegation waters but they have somehow shrugged that off with a decent start.
Makepekepe are still yet to field a good number of their newly-signed veterans with some still on the recovery path and others sorting out their papers.
These players include Adrian Silla, King Nadolo and Tafadzwa Rusike.
Winger Ian Nyoni has been ruled out for this fixture after failing to recover from an injury he picked last weekend in their goalless draw against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab.
“We have had a good start to the season and it’s something which isn’t surprising us because we worked very hard during the pre-season period.
“We are facing a good side and their coach has been here before and he knows some of us but we are going to play this match for our club president.
“He is one of the happiest people in the country right now after winning the primary elections in his constituency and losing will definitely spoil his mood,” said Bamusi.
He said their working conditions have improved significantly and there will be no excuses should they perform below par this season.
“You know a lot has been said about our financial status but, to be honest, we have been receiving our incentives in time,” he said.
“There are no complaints from anyone, everyone is just busy concentrating on how best they can help the team.
“And, individually, I’m happy with my performance and I believe I haven’t hit my best yet and there is still room to do more.
“Our coaches deserve credit for this turnaround although some might say that it’s still too early.
“But, I’m convinced that those sad days are now an issue of the past.”
