SIMBA Bhora goalkeeper William Thole was part of the Malawi provisional squad which was expected to be finalised yesterday or today for the Four-Nations Tournament, and it is not surprising why.
The 2025 Castle Premier Soccer League golden glove winner and soccer star finalist is setting an early pace, aiming to win the gong again this year.
Last year Thole won the goalkeeper of the year award after amassing 17 clean sheets and the Malawian international’s name is always among the first names that spring to mind in any discussion about the best goalkeepers in the domestic league.
The Malawian has established himself as Simba Bhora’s number one and has also firmly cemented his place as his country’s first choice.
Thole, who will be heading to Botswana for the four nations tournament also featuring Botswana and Zambia, could come face to face with Zimbabwe.
The goalkeeper will be carrying his domestic form to his national side where his national team coach Callisto Pasuwa banks much on his form.
“Of course I am happy with our current form as Simba Bhora family, we now have four clean sheets and yet to concede this season. Its every goalkeeper’s dream not to concede in a football match and I am thankful to my teammates for helping me achieve my targets,” Thole said.
“Last season I won the golden glove with seventeen clean sheets and this season I am working hard together with my coaches and teammates to improve on our statistics from last season.
“Personally my target is twenty clean sheets, I can equate the feeling of keeping a clean sheet to what a striker feels after scoring a goal.”
Thole has not only set sights on individual achievements but looking forward to do better than last season as a team.
Simba Bhora finished third behind eventual winners Scottland and runners-up MWOS last season.
“This season is promising to be a very good footballing season with a lot of competition. We are aiming to do better than last season and if we improve little details, its possible for us to finish with some silverware. We take every game as it comes but our goal is to win and we know how it feels to be champions so it will be great if we lift the trophy again,” said Thole.
