A MAN who threatened to disrupt his former wife’s lobola ceremony, and also threatened to kill her should she proceed with her plans to marry her new lover, has been barred by a court from executing his plans.

Tinashe Jongwe has been ordered not to communicate or come into close contact with his ex-wife, Agness Chidodo, by a Harare magistrate.

Magistrate Meenal Narotam established that Jongwe has been abusing his ex-lover physically and emotionally.

“He sent me a message threatening to kill me after he discovered that I was planning to remarry.

“I felt intimidated and was forced to change the dates for the ceremony because his threats sounded genuine,” Chidido told the court.

She added:

“I want to move on but his actions and threats are making me feel uncomfortable.”

Jongwe claimed the two were only in separation and he has been paying Chidodo’s rentals for the past two years.

“We have a son together, I feel betrayed by her and she has been taking advantage of my kindness while planning to marry another man.

“I was taking care of her needs, including paying her rent with the hope that we were going to reconcile our differences but, instead, she moved on and planned to get married to another man,” said Jongwe.

He said he can’t stand the sight of Chidodo with another man.

“I can’t watch her marry another man and let my son be raised by another man,” he said.

In her ruling, magistrate Narotam barred Jongwe from contacting or visiting Chidodo.

“The court will not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation towards Chidodo.

“The protection order is granted to ensure Chidodo’s safety and well-being,” ruled magistrate Narotam.
