Thousands attend ‘Vharai Gedhi’ concert

to celebrate his honorary doctorate and all his achievements drew multitudes of people from all walks of life.

Musicians who turned up for the much hyped gig include Suluman Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah, Somandla Ndebele, Mudiwa Mtandwa, Mathias Mhere, Marimba Ajehova Singers Group and Chiedza Chavatendi.

“Dr Phil”, as Chiyangwa is now known, hailed Chinhoyi residents for turning up in their numbers.

“I have never seen such an amazing crowd. Truly this is one of the biggest gigs I have ever seen in Chinhoyi this year. I heard Tsvangirai was here a few months ago, but he did not draw half this crowd.

Vangati Dr Phil vanovhaira, kana kuti varikuvhaira nemari dzavo, ndiyani asingadi zvakanaka? Regai tiite zvido zvavanhu nekuti ruzhinji ndirwo rwunoziva pandakafamba napo kusvika parinhasi (Some people would want to say a lot about me, but that will not hold me back from doing the good things I have been championing),” said Dr Phil.

Flamboyant gospel musician Mudiwa, Chiedza Chavatendi and Marimba Ajehovha were the show’s underdogs.. But this did not stop them from giving top-notch performances. Marimba Ajehovha were on fire with their hit song “Marimba Muriko” which happens to be the people’s favourite.

They were joined on stage by all the performing artistes when they called their names, much to the crowd’s delight. Mudiwa exhibited his swag and bling giving away six boxes of perfumes to the crowd.

The duo of Sulu and Jah Prayzah gave revellers great entertainment. Jah Prayzah’s song “Tsviriyo” was performed twice due to popular demand. US-bound Mhere was also another force to reckon with as he put up a good show. He received wild cheers when he churned his hit singles “Favour”, “Chipositora” and “Vimba naJehovha”.
