Tens of thousands attended the Munhumutapa Gala on Monday night at Gresham Primary School grounds in Mandava, Zvishavane.

This grand musical extravaganza coincided with President Mnangagwa’s 83rd birthday and featured top musicians delivering outstanding performances.

The evening commenced with an electrifying atmosphere as gospel artists led by Pastor Charles Charamba and his wife Olivia took the stage. Known as the “first family of Zim gospel”, they made the night memorable with their sing-along tracks captivating the audience with classics like “Machira Chete” and sending the massive crowd into a frenzy.

Mutare-based gospel diva Dorcas Moyo showcased her artistic flair in Zvishavane performing songs from her recently launched 10th album “Mugeri Tsvatu.”

For many fans in the Midlands, the Munhumutapa Gala was a long-awaited chance to see the beloved diva perform live. Moyo’s investment in choreography was evident and she delivered a memorable performance leaving many wanting more. Her confidence, wardrobe and stage presence were all on point as she energised the crowd with hits like “Mhanza Haiseikwi.”

Moyo noted, “We always give our all wherever we perform; that’s what we were born to do. I enjoy worshipping the Lord and our mission was accomplished.”

The night also belonged to Mathias Mhere who consistently impresses at national events.

The pint-sized prince of praise and worship delighted fans with his improvisational skills and a rich catalogue of danceable songs including “Wazondiramba” and “Zino Irema.” Mhere is maturing with each performance and complemented other artists at the event.

The Zimdancehall community was well represented with Enzo Ishall, Ndunge Yut, Killer T and Seh Calaz delivering successful sets.

They dedicated their performances to President Mnangagwa whose leadership and economic empowerment initiatives continue to uplift young people.

The young artists felt honoured to perform at the President’s birthday, a rare opportunity for many.

Suluman Chimbetu also shone on the night showcasing his growth over 20 years in the industry since his professional debut in 2005.

He played both his late father Simon “Chopper” Chimbetu’s and his own compositions preaching unity among Zimbabweans with his popular song “One Way.”

The Zanu PF youth leadership embraced him on stage dancing in solidarity and high spirits.

Peter Moyo the heir apparent of Utakataka Express was rewarded for his consistency with a slot at the gala performing before his fellow Midlands residents.

He paid tribute to the late Tongai Moyo a beloved figure at national events.

Like his father, Peter has established himself as a solid performer in the Sungura genre.

Fellow musicians Taruvinga Manjokota, Sandra Ndebele, IYASA and Tendai Dembo also graced the stage.

The turnout reflected President Mnangagwa’s milestones as he continues to empower young people and encourage hard work while combating drug abuse.

Inaugurated last year, the Munhumutapa Gala has been hailed as a triumph with many expressing hope for its expansion to other parts of the country in the spirit of inclusivity and leaving no one behind.
