Three arrested for copper cable theft in Murewa; additional arrests made in Bulawayo

Police officers manning a roadblock at the 73 km peg along Murewa-Madicheche Road intercepted and arrested three suspected copper cable thieves and recovered armoured cables on Tuesday.

The suspects Johanne Kaswove, Godknows Kutama and Ernest Sau were arrested for unlawful possession of copper cables.

Police searched the suspects’ Toyota Dyna leading to the recovery of two sacks containing armoured copper cables stolen from three different transformers in Mutawatawa.

They also recovered a 24-inch bolt cutter, a hacksaw, an eight-inch shifting spanner, a 160 mm side cutter, two screwdrivers and an electronic scale from the car.

On the same date, police in Bulawayo arrested Thuthukani Ndlovu (27) and Melulekh Nkiwane (24) for vandalism of key utility infrastructure.

The suspects allegedly vandalised a Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) transformer and stole copper cables in Cowdray Park.

Police recovered 30m x four-core transformer copper cables.

Similarly, on October 28, 2025, police in Pumula arrested Ofen Tamuka (21) for theft of ZETDC copper cables. Police recovered three x 30m copper cables, a bolt cutter and a scale.
