The three policemen, Jordan Kampitra (32), Misheck Mashoko (24) and Knowledge Rukumbo (22) were on patrol in Gweru CBD on Christmas Eve when they later allegedly demanded a bribe from a suspect, Satelight Mariri, who they found dead drunk.
The three were on Friday arraigned before Gweru provincial magistrate Mr Sithembinkosi Msipa facing a charge of abuse of office.
The three denied the allegations and were remanded to 11 January on $200 bail each.
The trio could, however, not immediately raise the required bail and were later taken to WhaWha Prison at close of business on Friday.
For the State, Miss Chipo Matshe told the court that on Christmas Eve, the three were on patrol when they arrested Mariri for public drinking.
Miss Matshe said after arresting Mariri, the three force-marched him to Gweru Central Police Station.
She said while on the way, the three then demanded a bribe from Mariri so that they could release him.
The court heard that Mariri indicated to the three that he had only $3 cash left in his shop. The three then returned to the shop and were given $3, which they then allegedly shared.
Mariri later visited Gweru Central Police Station and filed a report against the three leading to their arrest.
