GREETINGS beloved nation, in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. There are many dimensions of God’s visitation in our lives, but let me concentrate on the three essential dimensions where we can attract God into our lives.
These are levels at which we can trigger God to do certain things in our lives. When we study the Scriptures, we discover that God always desires fellowship with His highest creation, which is man.
In the book of Genesis, we see that God would come in the cool of the day to fellowship with Adam.
One of the reasons Jesus had to die was not only for us to be blessed but also so that God could have fellowship with man — (i) as individuals, (ii) as a collective in the church and (iii) outside formal gatherings or informal fellowship.
Let me start with individual fellowship: This is the highest level of gaining God’s attention and at this level, it can lead us into corporate fellowship and also into fellowship outside organised gatherings.
Many believers have failed to reach this highest level of fellowship. Scripture shows us that God would visit individuals in this intimate relationship. For example, when Mary, the mother of Jesus, was alone, the angel Gabriel appeared to her to speak about the Messiah who was to be born.
In Mark 1:35, we see Jesus leaving His disciples to go to a solitary place, meaning a quiet place where He was alone. The Bible says He prayed there. Jesus often withdrew from the crowds to speak with His Father and to receive instructions.
Many believers have not yet mastered this level because we are so caught up in crowds and busy schedules that we miss this dimension of God’s visitation.
I pray that, as individuals, we may learn to spend more time in solitary places with God. It reminds me of Moses, who spent about 40 days and nights on the mountain with God, during which he received the Ten Commandments.
That is a place where we encounter His glory. The Bible tells us that when Moses descended from the mountain and entered the camp of Israel, they had to put a veil over his face because of the glory of God shining from him.
The church has yet to fully master this level of one-on-one intimacy with God, where we spend so much time in His presence that His glory becomes more visibly evident in our lives.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, many Christians were spiritually affected. Some failed to grow, not because resources were lacking, but because they were accustomed only to the second level of fellowship — corporate fellowship.
Some backslid because they believed that God only speaks to them during gatherings, which is important but not sufficient. The first level of intimacy with God, however, gives birth to the corporate anointing.
The church has not been adequately trained to be in solitary communion with God, where we receive spiritual nourishment from the Holy Spirit to fulfill God’s purposes and plans.
As we observe nature, we see that every woman who is pregnant or has a child does so in secret, without anyone watching. During the lockdown, God gave us an opportunity for one-on-one intimacy — a season with no cameras, no crowds and no external encouragement, a time to seek God truly.
God wanted to capture our attention, deepen our prayer lives and strengthen our Bible reading.
This level involves the birthing of new things in our lives as individuals. The Bible says in Matthew 6:6, “When you enter into your closet and shut the door.” God is a God of secrets. When He sees what is done in secret, He will reward openly.
This is the level at which God is calling the church. We are so distracted by our surroundings and crowds that we often miss the voice of God speaking personally to us. I invite you to this level of intimate relationship with God, for it will lead us into our great calling. The third dimension is fellowship outside formal gatherings or informal fellowship, which we discussed in the last article.
Once again, I invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and you shall be saved.
