Three-year sentence for man who assaulted mother after she refused to sleep with him

A man from Emakhandeni suburb in Bulawayo, who demanded to have sex with his mother and later assaulted and strangled her after she rejected him, has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Takudzwa Madzipa (23) asked his biological mother, Ms Sarudzai Madzipa (48), for sex. When she did not consent, he punched her all over the body and choked her. As a result, his mother sustained injuries and had to be treated.

Madzipa was convicted of physical abuse by Western Commonage provincial magistrate Mr Vakai Douglas Chikwekwe on Thursday.

In passing sentence, Mr Chikwekwe said he took into consideration that Madzipa had been in police custody for a long time and that he pleaded guilty.

He, however said Madzipa’s conduct was immoral and uncouth.

Mr Chikwekwe said it was taboo for a son to demand sex from his mother and worse for assaulting her for refusing.

Courts, Mr Chikwekwe said, frown upon such conduct.

He sentenced Madzipa to 36 months imprisonment but suspended six months on condition of good behaviour.

 Ms Audrey Kufandikani prosecuted.
