THE final drag race meeting of the year took place last Saturday at the Bulawayo Motorsport Park — delivering an unforgettable day of high-speed action, roaring engines, and record-breaking performances.
The event drew an impressive crowd of approximately 3 000 spectators, making it one of the best-attended domestic motorsport events of the year.
A total of 51 entries across the car and bike categories ensured a full day of racing excitement and fierce competition.
Adding to the festival atmosphere, Wildcat Energy Drinks provided a mobile stage and high-powered public address system, keeping fans informed and energised throughout the day.
Racing began promptly at midday, and the atmosphere remained electric until the very last race.
The visiting Zambian Racing Team 313 lived up to their reputation, putting on an outstanding display in the bike classes.
Team 313 once again demonstrated why they are one of the most formidable forces in regional drag racing.
The grand finale in the car division saw Zimbabwe’s Aidan White (Boon), driving his Nissan Skyline 3.0L Turbo 4×4, face off against Zambia’s Ikhrama “King Bux”, in his Mercedes GLS 6.3.
The battle was so intense that a second run-off was required following a minor technical delay.
Ultimately, White emerged victorious, much to the delight of the local crowd.
Displaying great sportsmanship, “King Bux” congratulated his rival and promised, “I’ll be back!”
The Bulawayo Drag Racing Series continues to grow each season, providing a safe, competitive and entertaining platform for motorsport enthusiasts from across Southern Africa.
With strong community support, international participation, and committed sponsors such as Castrol HP Lubes and Wildcat Energy Drinks, the sport’s future in Zimbabwe looks brighter than ever.
The excitement continues as preparations begin for Zimbabwe’s premier motorsport event — the Three-Hour Endurance Race for cars and One-Hour Endurance Race for bikes — scheduled for December 6 at the Bulawayo Motorsport Park.
The endurance races will feature top competitors from Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana, with strong representation across all classes.
Leading the National Sports Car Championship standings is Calvin Rademeyer, partnered by Angela Tavares, who are widely regarded as the pair to watch in the three-hour event.
