adminand kicking. Perhaps we need to rewind events of the past two weeks when we had the
Harare International Festival of the Arts, among an array of other activities in the arts.
We were pleased to note that for the first time since Hifa was formed some 14 years ago, this year it struck a different chord.
Finally, the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation Television and Hifa struck a deal in which the ZBC TV was the official television partner. What a great partnership it was!
Those who did not attend Hifa especially those that do not live in the capital followed the festival on ZBC TV, something which never used to happen.
Of course, through this column we made it clear from the outset that ZBC TV was missing out big time on important footage of the festival which it would screen later in the year.
The deal took long to materialise but it was worth the wait. Hifa is an important cultural event not only for Harare but Zimbabwe as a whole and ZBC TV is our national broadcaster which played its part in filming the six-day festival.
At least those who didn’t have the faintest idea of what Hifa is all about now know what it is.
Quite honestly, I was happy to see the ZBC TV OB van (outside broadcasting) parked at the Harare Gardens for the full week of the festival.
As you might be aware the opening night of the festival is a must attend but those that failed to buy tickets on time still enjoyed the show from the comfort of their homes.
I am told the coming on board of ZBC TV was a culmination of many things, chief among them the latest state-of-the art equipment.
Some years back ZBC TV would hire equipment from South Africa whenever they wanted to go live.
So when they bought the new OB van and satellite equipment it became easier to go places.
Instead of just one OB van, I gather there are at least two which are functional and this makes it easier for ZBC TV to screen events live.
To this end, I want to thank my brother Happison Muchechetere for making a dream come true for many of their viewers who would have missed out on Hifa.
Elsewhere on DStv, the countdown to Africa’s biggest reality show – Big Brother Africa – has started.
This year’s season has been subtitled “The Chase” and we hope to give you highlights and tidbits of what will be happening in the house.
Up to now MultiChoice Zimbabwe have kept a lid on who is going to represent Zimbabwe but some sources claim Pokello Nare, whose claim to fame was when she starred in a sex tape with lover/singer Stunner, is our rep.
Well, the point is if Pokello is one of the two Zimbabwean housemates let’s give her all the support. I urge Zimbabweans to forgive and forget. After all, Big Brother is just a game!
