Gwenzi qualified for the games after an impressive performance at the Zone VI games and the African Championships which ended recently in South Africa.
The World Gymnastics Games have been scheduled for July 7 to 14 in Cape Town, South Africa.
Gwenzi took the first place defeating Srancis Jaer who settled for the second place and walked away with a silver medal while Kudzaishe Nyazvingo settled for bronze.
“I am very happy to be given the privilege of taking part in the competitions.
“It is a dream come true after my hard work of practising and I am going to give my best routines in all the Tumbling skills,” said Gwenzi.
In gymnastics tumbling also known as the power point tumbling is an acrobatic sporting disciplines which combines some of the skills of artistic on floor, vault, beam and bars.
Chris Muchatuta, the vice-president of the Zimbabwe gymnastics Association said their trip to the competition was very meaningful as this is the first time that Zimbabwe has qualified for the world gymnastics games in many years.
“It was not easy for Gwenzi to defeat all the opposition and being crowned as the 2012 Southern African Thumbling champion.
“We are so proud of him and we are going to do all we can because he has a lot of time. I am his coach and I believe he will do well.
“Gwenzi will be training more often now probably five days a week and we are going to have a South African coach Tseko Mgotsi who will be coming to assist in training.
“Hardy Sink from the Gymnastics Federation Switzerland will also be coming in April to train Gwenzi and the other gymnasts so I believe the competition in July will be interesting,” said Muchatuta.
Meanwhile, Kudzaishe Nyazvingo was the only Zimbabwe participant who scooped a medal in African Championships competition.
Nyazvingo got a bronze in the seniors Trampoline category.
