PRINCE Edward Tigers are looking to maintain their unbeaten run in the Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival and their game against St John’s College tomorrow will be crucial if they are to make their dream come true.
The Tigers won their first game against Lomagundi 28-0 while St John’s College won 28-5 against Allan Wilson but assistant coach Sean De Souza believes a winning background will give them the strength they need to pull through.
Last year at the same festival, Prince Edward finished unbeaten winning all three games and this is the same form that he believes his charges will maintain this year but with St John’s College in the way, it would not come easy.
“Our aim is to win we have the players and we are not going to change our starting XV because they did the job well scoring four tries all of them converted and we did not concede anything which shows our defensive structures were right.
“As hosts we chose to play the strong team because the tournament is based on strength to strength basis so that is why we are playing Porterhouse on the final day of the competition.
“We just need to have the ball in hand to maintain good play. Infact in as much as we would like to ain all three games I think we do not have much to lose because we lost to John’s last year in the season,” said de Souza.
So far this year Prince Edward have played 13 games, 12 of them from the international tour of Namibia and South Africa while their win against Lomagundi on Tuesday made it 13 but their play was not impressive.
“John’s College have always been a good side and they finished among the top teams in the schools league last year but at the same time us having played more than 12 games so far I believe we will be where we want to be,” added de Souza.
But the lunch-time kick off game between St Georges College and Namibia side Windhoek Technikon will mark the beginning of exciting rugby and this will be followed by the hosts game against St Johns College while Eaglesvale and Churchill will close the day’s play.
Eaglesvale coach Cyprian Mandenge believes his side has picked from their Tuesday defeat to Falcon College while Churchill are riding on a wave of confidence following an 80-0 thrashing of LKC College of Botswana.
