STAKEHOLDERS in the tobacco value chain are meeting today in Harare to validate the tobacco value chain transformation plan 2 (TVCTP 2) 2026-2030 ahead of its launch on the opening of the 2026 marketing season.
The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) invited value chain players to participate in the national validation workshop for the TVCTP and ensure the proposed strategic interventions are inclusive, practical and aligned with national development priorities.
“Following extensive and inclusive consultations with stakeholders across the entire tobacco value chain, including provincial engagements and sector-wide consultations with key value chain players, the inputs and recommendations received have been consolidated into a draft TVCTP 2,” reads the notice.
The national validation workshop is aimed at providing stakeholders with an opportunity to review, validate and enrich the consolidated draft prior to its finalisation and official launch.
The TVCTP 2 is a successor of the TVCTP (2021-25), which ended last year.
The TVCTP sought to secure the future and consolidate the important role tobacco plays through sustainable intensification of production to 300 million kg, enhance transparency and fair marketing. It also sought to optimise net export benefits from 12,5 percent of exports to 70 percent by 2025, increasing value addition from two to 30 percent by 2025, facilitating production of alternative crops and enhance traceability in the face of anti-tobacco campaign.
The 2026 tobacco marketing season is starting on March 4 with the industry expecting 400 million kilogrammes to pass through the hammer.
