Timba, ex-in-law in children custody row

Fidelis Munyoro-Chief Court Reporter

A major row over custody of children has erupted between businessman Mr Jameson Timba and his former son-in-law Mr Danzel Mushonga.

Mr Timba, who is an MDC-Alliance top executive, and his wife Chiedza allegedly took effective custody of their grandchildren during a temporary visit and have now set conditions for Mr Mushonga to access his children, whose mother Mandisa, has since relocated to the United States.

Before Mandisa left for the US, she had obtained passports for the children and Mr Mushonga fears that this could mean she wants them to join her before the custody dispute is resolved.

So now Mr Mushonga has approached the civil courts seeking an order that the children should live with him while the legal matters are sorted out and that their passports are kept by the clerk of court.

The order is sought against the Timbas and their house maid, Ms Collet Musamari.

If that fails then he at least wants access of a minimum of three times a week.

In his application, Mr Mushonga stated that his union with Mandisa Timba has been dissolved and she moved to the US in May this year leaving him with the children.
