TWALUMBA coach Wilson Mutekede says they have be realistic as their chances of survival in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league continue to fade away after dropping two points against Ngezi Platinum on Saturday.
The Northern Region can relegate up to six teams at the end of the season and Twalumba are 17th on the log table, second from the bottom with 23 points out of 30 matches.
Although they have 12 points to play for, their destiny is no longer in their hands as some of the teams also fighting relegation, such as Seven Flames and ZRP Morris, have 35 points.
If Twalumba win the remaining four matches they will finish the season with 35 points.
“To be honest with you it’s no longer in our hands. I have always looked at football this way, I don’t think you need other teams to play for you, you need to play for yourself,” said Mutekede.
“Even if we play for ourselves and get the 12 points remaining, chances are quite slim, but it’s possible depending on other teams.
“But look you want to be honest and be realistic with yourself.”
While Twalumba are already preparing for the worst, Seven Flames remain optimistic with their coach, Kudakwashe Matuwi, saying they need to win all their games.
“Chances are still there because we have four games and that’s 12 points. So we will fight till the end of the season. We have to make sure we win all our games left or, at least, half of the games.
“The chances are there but it now depends with how the other teams will be playing. But we will try to focus on our games.”
