Peter Matika Getting Stylish
IT is that time of the year again, where the weather really is unpredictable, one minute the sun is shining, then suddenly it’s overcast and begins to pour . . . The rainy season is here and for many this is an antagonising season. The rainy season, somehow is the most horrible season for many people, as they are forced to say goodbye to their favourite hobbies.
However, there is no need to say goodbye to your pastime activities if you are properly packed with reliable rain gear.
Anyway judging from last week’s downpour and the weather forecast, we should expect heavy rains this festive season.
The rainy season is one season that is not so popular with many people, obviously because they don’t want to get wet or have mud on their heels and have to go through the agony of scrapping it off the following day after it dries out.
Also the hassle of carrying an umbrella or wearing a cumbersome raincoat, I really can’t stand carrying an umbrella, as I have a habit of “donating” them to other people. What I mean is I tend to forget them either in someone’s office or vehicle.
Personally, I love the season but I can’t stand getting wet and having to walk in water puddles and mud caused by the rain. For children this is the most exciting season as they somehow have a licence to come home grimy.
The rainy season also somehow prevents people from looking trendy and stylish as they are forced to wear certain attire that keeps them warm and dry from the rain.
But what’s even more annoying is that many people think it’s not possible to look good in high-tech gear, which is just ridiculous, if you ask me.
Travel clothing only looks ugly because I think the designers are too lazy or just plain stupid, and decide to make it ugly.
But they have actually been so consistently ugly for so long that people don’t believe the world could be otherwise.
However, women somehow always manage to maintain their sassy look, while men on the other hand have trouble looking kempt and stylish during this season.
As I mentioned for men this is one of the most horrible seasons, as fashion houses don’t have much to offer in terms of garb that keeps them dry.
Some boutiques and shops are now offering a variety of rain jackets appropriate for changing temperatures.
These jackets, which are made from waterproof material, are as perfect for the constantly changing temperatures, as they are perfect for a hot and rainy day.
These will be sure to keep you cool while at the same time keeping you dry.
Not only are there jackets but there are also offering unique rain pants or trousers, which I am sure will be a favourite among many men.
From what I gathered these pants will also keep your lower half warm, while protecting your trousers.
If you do manage to shop around for these items, you just might want to add some accessories to them.
Obviously you wouldn’t want to damage or mess your expensive leather shoes from walking in the rain, so it would be advisable to get yourself a trendy shoe bag to protect your shoes from the water puddles and mud.
It is advisable to get a waterproof bag and throw your shoes in the bag and protect the rest of your items from getting dirty.
There are now also stylish and trendy rain boots for men, which come at reasonable prices.
You can also purchase a cool nifty umbrella, which will come as an accessory.

Hey there, I like your fashion tips. — MaMoe, Selonga High.
Hey, thank you for this week’s article. It gave me an insight on how we as Africans have enslaved ourselves . . . trying to adopt Western customs. We now suffer from an identity crisis ngokuthanda izinto. Angisoli those designers letting white models parade in African clothing. Bayananzelela that umuntu omnyama ka appreciate ukuba yikho kwakhe. — 0776411391.
Hey Peter, I like your column big time. My question to you is brother with Ebola and African designers travelling abroad for material and such, isn’t our fashion industry affected anyhow? — 0771784772.
Hi Peter, I like reading your column, for it is very informative. Help us by investigating how to prevent mouth odours. These can be nasty at times, they also affect relationships. I have found using salt water after brushing my teeth very helpful. — 0774633158.
