Time to re-build the family system

One of our duties at Citizen Africa Foundation is to help the family stabilise and carry out its Godly mandate of producing an offspring for God. It is the role of the family to train up its offspring so they are able to witness the family unity and purpose as reflective of the God-headed family. The family is responsible for molding Godly character and attitudes in their members and preparing them for good works in their communities. If the family loses its mandate, everything goes wrong.

I am one person who believes in the unmatched value of the family and would do everything possible to advocate for the defence of the family against everything the enemy throws at it so as to distract its purpose. In this generation, we do not have to be fooled beyond where we are right now. The enemy hates the family and if the family is destroyed there are no nations to talk about. The family is the foundation of society and if foundations be destroyed, what shall the righteous do? I mean, let us all remember that the day the devil showed up to humanity, it was at family level (Genesis 3). The day he corrupted the family, everything went off its right axis and from there on, sin has created havoc in the family, an institution God created for Himself so He would build nations through it.

It is therefore important that in this dispensation of re-building, we start with the foundations, the family. This institution cannot stand and serve its purpose built on faulty foundations. We did see some of these last week but there is so much need to go deeper. At the very genesis of these faulty foundations is sin. Many of us do not want to attend to this nature called sin nature. The sin in the first family in Genesis 3 was brought by disobedience. This was disobedience to the word and instruction of God, the creator of humanity and family.

Disobedience is costly and has cost many of our families. See the level of disobedience in many families including our Christian families. Disobedient fathers, mothers, children and servants. This runs from family to communities. It flows in workplaces, leadership at all levels and everywhere. We cannot continue building on this foundation when we all know and see its results every day. Family is a God thing and not necessarily a human culture thing. It is God who instituted and created family and with a huge purpose. He made it for humanity and humanity did not make the family. It is wise therefore to do family the way He intended. My invitation is to all of us, to make serious reflections and reconsider the ways we are doing family and go back to God. Disobedience will destroy us.

Again if you look at the first human family, you will notice that their disobedience brought about many other things which began to impose themselves onto the family foundations. It brought the blame game. They started blaming each other and failed to own up to their own mistakes. There is so much blaming of each other in many families in this generation.

Family members refuse to be responsible for their mistakes and push the blame on each other resulting in many conflicts. See what happened with the first human family. Their sons killed each other as a result of this sin and blaming culture. I am sure in his heart Cain was blaming his young brother, Abel, for the rejection of his offering by God. I have seen families blame each other to the point of killing each other, bewitching each other, pulling apart and not talking anymore. Look at the amount of blame in our society today. It comes from the foundations, the family.
I have seen many families torn apart by jealousy and sibling rivalry.

I have seen families torn apart and destroyed by divination and love for money. Many sell their souls by involving themselves in serious occults just to be richer than the other person. The biggest challenge, particularly in Africa, is the competition mindset. Family members cannot be in competition. Family members are supposed to encourage and carry each other’s burdens, but in this generation, members compete to the point of killing each other. The mindset to compete is born of a spirit of jealousy and divination. It is a wrong spirit that is sent to rob the family of its purpose. The family on earth derives its nature and DNA from the family in Heaven. The God-headed family is united and one. Jesus says when you see Him you have seen His Father in Heaven. They are so one and so united in doing good and serving humanity. See how proud Jesus is of His father and how proud the father is of His son.

How many of us today can be so proud of our sons, daughters and parents? Instead all you hear is children blaming parents and parents blaming children. Family was meant to be united in doing good and the good works God created beforehand for us to do. Unfortunately the family today is united in doing evil and perpetuating the nature of sin.

This makes the family weak and purposeless.

Beloved, unless we all come to a point where we together, stand up to re-build the family, our situations will get worse. If we could stabilise the family and help the family carry out its God given mandate, we will solve 90% of our social ills. Is it not clear to us that all the ills we see, are a feedback to us about a family system that is out of order? I do not know if we ever take time to listen to the feedback on the streets and elsewhere. Tribalism and racism are learnt from the family. They are not the sickness of the human blood. They are not an inborn thing. No one is born a tribalist or racist. We all learnt it somewhere and it has its formative stages in the family. Families teach hatred of other people to their children. This is wrong. If the family taught love and appreciation of the diversity of humanity, these will be no issue today.

Look at how much destruction these twin evils have brought to nations of the world. Look at the pride they give to misled mindsets. It is a shame to humanity. I mean all these other evils are also learnt at home. Think of drunkenness, jealousy, divination, and many others. If the family was teaching sound doctrine, we will not even have terrorists and robbers around us. We will not have all the crime we are faced with.

It is my conviction that in our developmental work as nations, one of our greatest mitigation strategies should be the re-building of the sound family system based on godliness. Unless God builds the family, they labour in vain that build it. It’s time to re-build the family beloved.
