Time to stand up to global aggressors

occupation by the West, the upcoming 16th Non-Aligned Movement Summit to be held in Iran between August 26 and 31 2012 abundantly gives these besieged countries an invaluable platform to have their muffled voices heard.
The Non-Aligned Movement has 120 members who constitute nearly two thirds of the UN members and contain about 55 percent of the world population. This mathematically positions the group second to the undemocratic United Nations, giving the movement an organisational clout that could significantly tip the geo-political scale in its favour.

The use of international organisations to shape geo-political events has not only become strategic but fashionable as the world continues to witness Western countries use not only the United Nations but also their surrogate organisations like the IMF, World Bank and NATO to foist their self-serving will on weak nations, mostly from the developing world.

Conspicuously, the Western nations have unsparingly manipulated their well-perched positions in the UN Security Council and other warped UN structures to militarily destabilise global activities for the expediency of their hegemonic designs.
Recently, they used the combined clout of the UN and other regional groupings like the Arab League to sanitise their disgracefully premeditated invasion and subsequent occupation of Libya.

The same deceptive mechanism was used in the invasion and occupation of Iraq, Afghanistan and Ivory Coast, among other unfortunate countries.
Such adverse global developments should patently awaken members of the Non-Aligned Movement to the fact that as members of the largest political group next to the United Nations, they wield untapped diplomatic power that could shape or reshape global politics in their favour.
Already the movement’s Havana Declaration of 1970 gives it an unmistakable and express mandate to safeguard “the national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of non-aligned countries” in their “struggle against imperialism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, racism, and all forms of foreign aggression, occupation, domination, interference or hegemony as well as against great power and bloc politics.”

This gives the movement a momentous springboard to launch its overdue bid to protect national interests of its members from being unjustifiably trampled upon by the so-called superpowers, which apparently thrive on creating chaos in developing nations in order to cunningly plunder the poor nations’ abundant natural resources.
Unlike the arbitrary and undemocratic United Nations, which is under the imperial spell of the powerful Western nations, the Non-Aligned Movement provides a congenial platform for the isolated and invaded nations of this world to put their heads together to stave off indecorous attacks from the conceited bully nations from the West.
The movement brings together a myriad of economically underprivileged, globally isolated and militarily occupied states like Cuba, Venezuela, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq and Zimbabwe.

These countries are perennially disenfranchised and isolated from the United Nations structures by virtue of being non-permanent members to the all-powerful UN Security Council.
