Timely donation to combat drug abuse

Watchman Relief Organisation (WRO), a local non-governmental organisation dedicated to addressing drug abuse, child marriages, rape, gender-based violence and uplifting marginalised women has received a generous donation of 20-litre water buckets from Great Flavours Company, producers of Great Flavours ice cream.

The timely contribution underscores the critical need for collaborative efforts in combating Zimbabwe’s escalating drug abuse epidemic. Zimbabwe is grappling with drug abuse, with statistics revealing devastating consequences on youth, familiesand communities.

According to recent reports, drug abuse has claimed countless lives, destroyed families and compromised the nation’s economic productivity.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that substance abuse disorders affect over 10 percent of Zimbabwe’s population.

Watchman Relief Organisation has been at the forefront of addressing the drug abuse issue, providing comprehensive support services to vulnerable individuals and communities.

“WRO’s initiatives focus on drug abuse prevention and awareness programmes in primary and high schools.

“Community-based interventions, including mobile clinics and outreach programmes.

“Psychosocial support and counselling services for victims and their families and herbal medicine-assisted withdrawal programs and rehabilitation services,” said Watchman Relief Organisation’s Projects Director, Professor Nathaniel KudakwaMwari.

The donated water buckets will facilitate the transportation of medical kits to operational sites, enhancing WRO’s capacity to provide essential services.
