How Mine v FC Platinum
I WAS really embarrassed after telling Gibson Homela before kickoff that we were going to watch a good game judging from what I had witnessed when FC Platinum played Highlanders.
Both sides lacked confidence to build from the back with both goalkeepers busy with goal kicks, pumping the balls upfront, bypassing the midfield leaving players like Thabani Kamusoko, Menard Mupera, Edmore Muzanenhamo who love to display their passing play running forward and backwards like headless chickens.
That was a bad approach on the part of the players of the two teams because when they play Dynamos or Highlanders they raise their game but you cannot win the league championship by beating the two old teams.
In the terraces one fan behind me shouted and said, “Tsano these players do not train together, I think they meet on Whatsapp.”
Tactics to learn from the World Cup
Cote d’Ivoire v Colombia: Dribbling is a tactic on its own. I say this after watching Cote D’Ivoire striker Gervinho going past Colombia defenders like a hot knife through butter.
England v Uruguay: Long goal kicks can sometimes work as counter attacks catching the opposition unawares. Look at Luis Suarez’s second goal, it came from that situation.
Costa Rica v Italy: Utilising your chances is very important. It won the game for Costa Rica, the goal came from a well executed cross.
France v Switzerland: Good jumping can be effective on set pieces, it opened the first goal for France. Counter attacking with speed brought in the third goal for France.
Ghana v Germany: Playing well when you do not win is not a true definition of the phrase most coaches love to say when being interviewed after games. Ghana may regret not collecting the three points by failing to make it to the last 16.
South Korea v Algeria: Two different types of South Korea players who can twist and turn on a sixpence speed with clever legs. Algeria players are physically strong with a high level of aggression which they used purposely on the three first goals.
Argentina v Iran: There are sayings in football which are (A) the idea is not to score but to shoot at goal (B) a striker is someone who shoots 10 times at goal just to try and score one goal. Lionel Messi did that to win the game against stubborn Iran.
Belgium v Russia: My wife after watching Ghana and Germany game the previous day asked me why both teams played high balls all the time, was it because they have tall players? This tells you that there was nothing to learn from the game.
Joke: Two Highlanders supporters are watching a soccer match at Barbourfields. One supporter to the other, “Even if Kuda Mahachi cost $50,000 he doesn’t know how to pass the ball to the midfielder.”
“Don’t talk silly,” says the other supporter,
“Do you expect him to pass the ball to Erick Mudzingwa who only cost the club $500.”
