seasons from the first day schools opened. That is what students have to put up with for the next three months.
What are the available options? Either dread it or love it. The coolest idea is to do it the Cool Lifestyle way and that is to embrace the cold weather.
There is no escaping the cold spell but life has to go on. It being the second week of the term, many students are already settled into the learning fever.
The second day of the term and while most are busy settling in, it is worth mentioning that surviving the winter requires technique. Cool Lifestyle is happy to dish out some of these survival skills that will help students to glide through the term. Sit up and take notes.
In the previous back to school article during the first week of the term, the important tip offered was to start the day on an early tip. It may prove to be difficult to achieve that but the good thing about the human body is that you can programme it.
If the alarm goes off around the first time for a few days in a row, you will eventually find yourself waking up around the same time even if the alarm does not pound.
A tip that can guarantee you are up for real once the alarm goes off is to put your favourite song as the alarm’s ringing tone.
Your interest will be drawn and as you enjoy the track, you will not feel sleepy any more. This might not be the best methods to do things but at least you are guaranteed it will help shake the slumber out of your system.
Once your eyes are open, do not even think of sleeping for a few minutes no matter what the little voice in your head is telling you.
The next stage to surviving in winter is to plan adequately on how to tackle the day, and all the assignments from school. Since it is harder to wake up early morning, one can strive to do most of the tasks in the evening and leave the few for the morning. That way, one is not up and about in the cold weather.
Are you ready for cold and flu season? If you want to avoid being sick and feeling like you have to go to the doctor to get antibiotics and other drugs, now is the time to be thinking about prevention!
To that end, here’s some great tips from healthonline.com to strengthen your body’s immune system during the winter season.
1. Drink the optimal amount of water. With the winter season here, it’s more important than ever to consume the right amount of water for your health. Hot beverages are the way to go too. It is advisable to start your day with warm food and beverages. Coffee, although it needs to be taken in moderation, contains caffeine that helps to chase away the cold morning drowsiness. Hot chocolate, tea or soup can also do the trick.
2. Keep stress to a minimum. Studies have linked high stress levels to making a person more susceptible to catching colds and flu. Minimise your stress by working reasonable hours at your job. Aim for at least one night per week to spend with friends and family.
3. Eat a healthy diet. Maintaining a good healthy diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables and minimal amounts of organic meats is another way to keep your body clean and in good working order. Try eating an extra piece of fruit or veggie every day too! One needs to eat the right foods to keep coughs and colds at bay. Food rich in vitamin C will help your immune system gear up for the common colds that might end up grounding a person.
3. Do your homework to find the best supplement for your health. Even if you eat “perfectly” all the time with loads of fresh fruits and vegetables, you still need to boost your nutrition with a supplement. What supplements you will need will depend significantly on your lifestyle.
4. Exercise regularly. It is important to exercise regularly, even if only for 15 minutes a day! Get out and take a short walk and enjoy the cooler weather. It would prove helpful to jog in the morning as a way of preparing for the day. That way, one will not dread to get into the shower to take a bath. The trick, however, is to ensure that one carefully monitors the time that he or she spends doing this. If the time available is less then it would be wise to sprint for a shorter distance over jogging for a longer one.
5. Get the right amount of sleep every night. The average person needs six to eight hours of sleep per night. If you’re not getting enough sleep, your body is extremely vulnerable to illness. Sleep is very much like fuel that recharges your batteries! You’ve got to do it to keep the machine running.
6. Wash your hands regularly. Keep the bacteria and viruses off your hands and out of your mouth and eyes. Keep a bottle of hand sanitiser close-by for those instances where you can’t get to soap and water.
7. Don’t smoke. Most of you already know this, but it bears repeating because smoking significantly weakens your immune system.
8. Eliminate all forms of sugar. This includes not only the obvious kinds (cake, cookies and sweets, in general), but bread, pasta, rice, yogurt and commercial, store-bought fruit juices. Although all of these things are made with different types of sugars, your body still converts them to sugar, which will compromise your immune system.
