Tariro Home for Cancer Patients is housed at Parirenyatwa Hospital and is meant to accommodate patients from out of Harare who undergo treatment at the referral centre.
The funds raised would also be channelled towards procurement of drugs to those who cannot afford, development of information materials such as brochures, commencement of screening for cervical cancer and commencement of research on cancer in Zimbabwe.
“TM Supermarkets identified women as the main decision makers in the households and key customers for the business,” said TM’s chief operating officer Mr Bisset Chimhini.
“As such, it was a worthwhile cause to bring awareness and knowledge of cancer and its various forms to society.
“TM seeks to bring real value to the Zimbabwean community not only through retail activities, but by equipping its customers with invaluable knowledge on life and as such creating life-long customers for the business.”
As part of its activities for this year, last Friday TM employees were wearing branded cancer T-shirts and ribbons in commemoration of cervical cancer.
Till operators were also giving out pamphlets on cervical cancer to shoppers and those with credit notes were also given an option to drop them in a donation box.
