Today is CABS Day at the ongoing Harare International Festival of the Arts and the focal highlight will be the Opera Gala which will see some of the best international opera stars giving their best at the ZOL Main Stage.
Some of the entertainers will feature the likes of Indra Thomas, James Valenti, Krysty Swann ,Lester Lynch, Laquita Mitchell and Zimspiration choir. Zimspiration choir, trained by Kundisai Mtero, will be raising the country’s flag high as they seek to outshine their soloists counterparts whom they will join in a few well-known choruses.
The Opera Gala will take place between 6.30 and 7.40pm and is to be escorted by musicians performing in the KPMG Classical Music Programme fronted by astounding American pianist, Gerald Steichen, who is also a conductor and musical director.
Sharing the ZOL Main Stage later in the evening from 10 to 11.10pm will be Australia’s hip-hop sensational trio, True Vibenation. The trio consists of twin brothers born in Zimbabwe but were raised by artist parents in Sydney, Australia. Over the years, the trio have widened a hefty following with credit due to their live shows and they even have a self-made instrument to illustrate their distinctive approach in hip-hop music.
Theatre lovers will also be in for a treat as early as 10am as venues The Standard Theatre, ZB Banks Reps Theatre and ZB Bank Reps Theatre Upstairs, will play host to films “Bird heart”, “Twenty Fifteen” and “A Tree To Sing” respectively.
“A Tree To Sing” will keep many captivated, especially the young at heart ,as the puppet show is about magic trees with an appreciation for baritones, djembe jiving, monsters with mixed diets and an ambitious hare who is tired of ”wire wiring it” in the cellphone airtime business. It is based on African folktales told by Zimbabwe’s own Shimmer Chinodya, Alexander McCall Smith and directed by Kevin Hanssen.
For poem enthusiasts, Hivos Poetry Lab will host the “Word Of Garden” poetry session scheduled to start from 2 to 3pm. The ” Word Of Garden” session will include intimate poetry presentations from five exciting poets who include Mandisa , Mandi, Toby Thompson, Barbra Anderson and PAN from Botswana, South Africa, United Kingdom and Zimbabwe respectively.
