Lovemore Zigara in Gweru
TONGOGARA return to Battlefields this afternoon for a date with FC Platinum Under 19 in a game they will be looking to garner maximum points in the Zimbabwe General Medical Aid Fund Central Region Soccer League.
The game is one of the two fixtures lined up this weekend as the league tries to re-organise its fixtures following the pulling out of Chrome Stars earlier during the season. The other match pits police outfit Black Eagles who take on Gweru-based Sheasham at Simbi Grounds in Buchwa today.
Tongogara recorded their first set of maximum points last weekend after edging MSU 1 – 0 at the same venue and would be hoping to pick up where they left from.
The army side gaffer Kelvin Maphosa stressed the need for his side to keep on picking points for them to put their championship campaign back on the rails.
“We need to keep on picking points and that is very important. We need to maximise on home advantage and start picking points and this will give confidence to the boys. We want to be with the top teams at least at the half way stage of the season,” he said.
Elsewhere, winless Black Eagles want to claim the scalp of the expensively assembled Sheasham.
Sheasham come into the match unbeaten together with Tongogara. They are also yet to concede a goal.
Oscar Muvhimi, the Black Eagles gaffer believes his side will do a giant killing act and embarrass the Finhu Finhu Boys.
“We are playing at home and we are expecting three points. We are on a rebuilding exercise and we haven’t been doing well but starting from this match we hope to start picking maximum points,” he said.
His Sheasham counterpart, Jeremiah Neganda, said it will be a tough match but expressed confidence of burying the police side.
“It is a tricky tie because we are unbeaten and they are to win. Playing at home any team can spring a surprise but we are ready for them,” said Neganda.
