DANCEHALL chanter Tony Dee will next month officially unveil his studio in Mutare in a development that is set to benefit local aspiring dancehall musicians. The studio is called Dancehall Greatest Records. The Dangamvura-born musician, who is rising like a Phoenix in the dancehall music industry, is currently riding high with a new single released last week, Ngoma Yarira.
In the song, Tony Dee, whose real name is Robert Tondoya, pays tribute to Mutare-based wheel spinners, musicians and entertainers who include wheel spinners Hollies B, DJ Ranga and promoter Obey “Big Fish” Hove.
The song was produced by Dr Clarence. The musician, famed for the hit track Taxi Driver, has already incorporated upcoming chanters Black Warrior and Magaivha to the Dancehall Records stable.
“Recording equipment is ready. My next single will be recorded at the new studio before the end of year. It is a dream-come-true for me, local musicians and Mutare in general. I realised that Mutare has abundant talent that needs to be nurtured. It is quite unfortunate that some upcoming musicians have been failing to record just because they don’t have money to travel to Harare as well as funds for recording,” he said.
“My colleagues in the music industry such as Silver Don, General Alvin, Snaxx, Spills, D Mec, I-Finton, Spy, Frazer, Silver Vee, Candy Man, Ras Blu and Casper T have contributed to my success and I dedicate my album to them, among others,” added the soft-spoken and talented lyricist.
