LONDON. — The English Football Association have been left fuming after West Brom boss Tony Pulis demanded to know how managers’ fines are spent.
Pulis has told the FA to “show us the money” after branding a £50 000 fine for Jose Mourinho “extraordinary”.
But privately the comments are believed to have sparked anger among FA officials, who are upset at suggestions the money will help pay for staff to be at Euro 2016.
Pulis has demanded answers from FA bosses about how fines collected from high-profile managers are spent.
His outspoken comments come after Mourinho was fined heavily and given a suspended one-game stadium ban over comments about referees.
An FA statement read: “The FA is a not for profit organisation that puts its funds back into football at every level of the game, including grassroots football.
“We have been able to achieve this at a rate of more than £100m a year consistently. All of the funds from fines go back into FA revenues which subsequently help us fund football from the grassroots through to the FA Cup.”
Pulis defended Mourinho yesterday after the Chelsea manager branded his punishment “an absolute disgrace”.
Pulis said: “Richard Bevan at the LMA has to pull all the managers together.
“If the FA are going to really punish managers we have to do something about it. We have to have a meeting about what does and what doesn’t happen. I think £50 000 is an extraordinary amount of money.
“The other thing we have to be careful of is that, this is a game of emotion and managers get emotionally involved.’’ – The Daily Star.
