DYNAMOS juniors’ boss, Vincent Chawonza, has appealed for unity of purpose in the football fraternity.
Chawonza said there were serious divisions in junior football which were hampering the development of the game in the country.
“We have intentionally divided our junior leagues into two. “It’s not good for the boys as there is a certain section called the elite league and then the less privileged ones.
“The Harare Provincial Junior League is a good example of these less privileged juniors.
“It has badly divided our boys into two sections in the country. “My advice is to unite these two leagues, regardless of where they come from.”
He added:
“This status quo has made it difficult for juniors who play for teams from the ghetto to break into big teams, which can market them.
“You will find that there are many privileged academies, such as Prince Edward and Majesa, among others. “Their players are always positioned to break into teams like Dynamos because of their association with the elite league.
“This earns them favours from certain coaches.”
He said they need to unite junior footballers, regardless of which league they come from, and give every player an equal opportunity.
“I plead with junior football stakeholders to put aside their differences as it is affecting development and we end up losing talent.
“At the moment, no matter how talented one might be, if you are in the wrong junior league, you have no future in football.
“Let’s give all our boys an equal opportunity to play football at the highest level by selecting them based on talent rather than status.”
