BOXING Hall of Fame, World Boxing Council (WBC) chairman of the Medical Advisory Board and renowned boxing physician Dr Paul Wallace will conduct a workshop for boxers, stakeholders and the media in Bulawayo.

Wallace is expected in the city on 31 August.

He is also the founder of the Association of Ringside Physicians, an international non-profit organisation dedicated to the health, safety and welfare of boxers and other combat sport participants.

He has worked as chief ringside physician in world championship fights involving celebrity boxers Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Lennox Lewis, and will speak on head injuries in boxing, hepatitis and HIV.

He will also touch on his experiences with the world’s best boxers.

Payne Global Sports International in conjunction with Blue Gloves Boxing Stable are bringing the world renowned physician, who is also a member of the United States of America boxing medical team.

Lovemore Dube of Blue Gloves Boxing Stable said the workshop was meant to give boxing stakeholders an appreciation of the risks associated with the sport.

“The idea of inviting a world renowned physician was to give boxers and all stakeholders an appreciation of the risks associated with the sport as well as ways to avert them,” said Dube.

“We have seen situations in local boxing where unqualified personnel, who should not be any way near the ringside, assigned for bouts, which not only place the careers, but the lives of boxers in danger,” he said.

The venue of the workshop will be announced in due course.
