TOP BRASS’ CAR SCHEME HALTED

THE Municipality of Chinhoyi has buckled under pressure from residents and halted the purchase of five top-of-the-range vehicles for senior management.

The vehicles were meant for the Mayor, Finance Director, Chamber Secretary, and two other officials.

The resolution was passed against the  backdrop of poor service delivery in the town.

Chinhoyi Mayor, Councillor Garikai Dendera, told H-Metro that council had put on hold the acquisition of the vehicles until the local authority improves service delivery.

Dendera said councillors were in agreement and passed a resolution halting the purchase of the vehicles.

He said the resolution was a sign that council prioritises efficient and effective service delivery.

Dendera said it was imperative for the Council to first clear its salary backlog.

He said the issue of improving service delivery had outweighed the purchase of the vehicles.

However, Dendera emphasised that the Council will reconsider purchasing the vehicles once service delivery improves.

“Once service delivery is improved, then we will recommend the purchase of the five vehicles.

“We are not going to buy all the vehicles at once.

“It was our wish as Council to buy the cars this year, but we factored in the need to improve service delivery,” said Dendera.
