THE journey to one of the United Kingdom’s biggest Zimbabwean gospel gatherings has officially begun after the first batch of local delegates for the Grateful Experience 4.0 left the country yesterday ahead of the highly-anticipated worship celebration in Birmingham.
The first group, made up of backing vocalists, members of the technical crew, media personnel and arts dignitaries, departed Harare full of excitement as preparations gathered momentum for the award-winning gospel showcase hosted by UK-based gospel promoter and events curator Eleana Makombe.
Upon arrival in the UK, the team will be accommodated in Birmingham, the city that will once again transform into a spiritual and musical meeting point for Zimbabweans in the diaspora and gospel lovers from different communities.
This year’s Grateful Experience has already generated huge buzz across social media platforms and church circles owing to its powerful line-up, growing international reputation and commitment to uplifting Zimbabwean gospel music on the global stage.
Organisers said preparations on the ground in the UK were now at an advanced stage and all systems were in place to welcome the travelling delegation.
“We are excited and honoured to receive our brothers and sisters coming from Zimbabwe. The team here is ready and the atmosphere is already filled with expectation,” one of the organisers said.
“We want every guest and every artiste to feel at home. Grateful Experience is not just a concert, it is a ministry, a reunion and a celebration of faith through music.”
This year’s edition is expected to feature a rich mix of seasoned gospel ministers, rising stars, worship teams and instrumentalists who are all tipped to leave a lasting mark on audiences.
On the line up include Minister Micheal Mahendere, Canaan Nyathi, The Unveiled, Spiwe Ndebele, Rudo Madindi, The Cherayis’, Minister Linos who will share the stage with South African giants Sipho Makhabane and Rebecca Malope.
Industry observers say the carefully selected line-up reflects the continued growth and diversity within Zimbabwe’s gospel sector, with organisers balancing established names and fresh talent capable of connecting with younger audiences.
Some of the artistes expected to headline the event have built loyal followings through contemporary worship music, traditional gospel sounds and inspirational performances that continue to resonate both locally and abroad.
The inclusion of young creatives, backing vocalists and technical experts has also been praised as a major step towards exposing Zimbabwean talent to international production standards and networking opportunities.
Over the years, Grateful Experience has steadily grown from a simple worship gathering into one of the most anticipated Zimbabwean gospel events in the UK calendar.
Previous editions attracted hundreds of worshippers and music lovers who travelled from different cities across the UK and neighbouring countries to witness spirit-filled performances, emotional testimonies and unforgettable praise sessions.
The event has also become known for creating moments of unity among Zimbabweans living abroad, many of whom use the gathering as a chance to reconnect with their culture, language and spiritual roots.
Past editions featured electrifying worship sessions, emotional collaborations and surprise performances that left audiences calling for bigger and more frequent gospel events in the diaspora.
For Eleana Makombe, the continued growth of Grateful Experience is deeply personal.
Sources close to the organisers say the platform was born out of a passion to create a space where gospel music ministers could freely worship, inspire and uplift communities far from home.
Through the initiative, Makombe has emerged as one of the key Zimbabwean gospel promoters in the UK, helping to export local talent while strengthening the visibility of gospel music internationally.
Observers within the arts sector believe events such as Grateful Experience are critical in changing perceptions around gospel music, proving that the genre can successfully compete on international stages while maintaining its spiritual message.
The event also comes at a time when Zimbabwean gospel musicians are increasingly attracting global attention through digital platforms, collaborations and diaspora engagements.
Music analysts say the exposure created by international gospel events is helping local artistes unlock new audiences, partnerships and touring opportunities beyond Southern Africa.
