South Africa-based wordsmith Gigi Lamayne is proving that she is not just a force behind the mic after she emerged at the top of the pile in the Media Studies class of 2015 at Wits University last Friday.
The Zimbabwean rapper walked away with the Media Monitoring Africa Prize after being recognised as the top performing student in her class which graduated from the institution a few weeks ago. The ceremony for the highest performing students in various faculties was held last Friday morning at Wits University.
A protA�gA� of South African rap superstar Khuli Chana, Lamayne has been on the rise in the past year, with her song Ice Cream landing on top of the charts.
After receiving the award Lamayne, who has been a fierce advocate of the Fees Must Fall movement in South Africa over the last few months, revealed that her own academic achievements had not come easy.
a�?If you really like somethinga�s youa��ll make it work. I had to give up my social life to be able to do thata�sa�? she said.
As her career begins to make waves in South Africa, Lamayne also revealed that she would be taking a gap year and after that she planned to pursue her Honours then Mastera��s degree.
a�?Ia��m taking a gap this year to focus on my musica�s because things are really getting hectic. But now that Ia��ve got my undergraduate degreea�s Ia��m hoping to carry on with my honours and masters probably next year.a�?
As she now possesses a media degree, the young star also recently revealed on Twitter her big ambition of starting her own record company.
