TOP telecommunications firms, NetOne and Econet Wireless yesterday scooped key awards in their sector at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.
NetOne was judged to be the best firm in the Information and Technology sector ahead of competitors TelOne and Econet Wireless.
This year the telecommunication companies went a gear up showcasing more than mobile phone services as they branched out to other facets of technology such as gaming, virtual reality, e-learning, mobile money transfer and internet services.
At its stand, NetOne had products such as a gaming room for virtual reality and a Smart Education booth where visitors were taken through how the application works.
Econet Wireless came out tops in the best exhibit Supreme as it fully embraced the exhibition theme.
The country’s prime trade and investment expo which ends today is being held under the theme, “Rethink, Reimagine, Reinvent Value Chains for Economic Development,” and there was a packed programme of conferences and seminars throuhgout the trade expo week.
Bulawayo City Council, once again cemented its mantle as the best in civic participation as it scooped the top prize.
The mayor, Councillor Solomon Mguni received the award on behalf of the city.
In second place was Harare City Council and Gweru City Council came third.
In the Agricultural and Irrigation equipment category, National Foods Limited won ahead of Zimplow Holdings.
National Foods Limited also scooped the Food Group category ahead of Dairboard Holdings and Delta Corporation Limited.
Receiving the Zimpapers Trophy and ZITF Gold Medal in the mining and engineering category was the National Railways of Zimbabwe while the best exhibit in Business Support and Regulatory Authority went to the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA).
The construction, building, and hardware category award went to Allied Timber Zimbabwe.
Zanu- PF, whose stand was a hive of activity also came out tops while its affiliate group, Menbelieved was voted the best first-time exhibitor.
After presenting the prizes, President Mnangagwa was given a garden table and chairs made from Lupane timber by Natural Wood Company as a token of appreciation.
