Top tennis players convege for CAT tourney

Sports Reporter
TOP tennis players from around the continent are battling for points in the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) Under-14 tournament that started at Bulawayo Country Club on Sunday.

The competition comes a week after the Under-12 regional competition at the same venue last week sponsored by Ingwebu Breweries.

Tennis Zimbabwe administrator Cliff Nhokwara said the week-long competition had attracted players from the top tennis playing countries on the continent.

“This is an individual competition, which will be played in a knock-out format. We have players from powerhouses such as Egypt, Morocco and Kenya taking part in this competition. Southern Africa nations have also fielded their best players in that age-group. We thank Ingwebu who are a big contributor to the smooth running of this event and the one we had last week,” said Nhokwara.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s Under-12 boys and girls did the country proud by finishing top of their groups Under-12 tournament.

The Zimbabwe team will now represent the Sadc region in a tournament to be held in either Morocco or Tunisia in December.

They beat teams from Botswana, Namibia and Malawi.
