A TOUGH task lies ahead for Zimbabwe on day three of the first Test match against South Africa at Queens Sports Club.
The visitors are leading by 216 runs, having bowled out the hosts for 251 runs.
South Africa made 419/9 (declared) in the first innings.
Veteran Sean Williams fought a lone battle with the bat on Sunday, but his valiant effort wasn’t enough to help Zimbabwe get closer to South Africa’s first innings score.
Williams scored a brilliant 137 runs, more than half of the Chevrons’ 251 runs, which left them trailing the Proteas by 167.
Interestingly, Williams has scored five of the 10 centuries by Zimbabwean batters since the start of 2020.
South African skipper Keshav Maharaj, who finished with figures of 3/70, reached 200 Test wickets.
The World Test Champions resume the third day on 49/1 with Tony De Zorzi (22) and Wiaan Mulder (25) in the middle.
Tanaka Chivanga took the only wicket that fell.
