Town clerk gets his job back

 

after a municipal audit report implicated him the misappropriation of council funds, false financial claims and failure to supervise the director of finance and his subordinates.

The audit alleged that Mr Muringani misappropriated council and medical aid funds and failed to accomplish his administrative roles.

On the first count, Mr Muringani was accused of taking cash from the council coffers totaling US$4150 without signing necessary accounting documents.

It was further alleged that Mr Muringani had claimed and withdrawn US$12 535 for medical assistance when he was already a member of a valid medical aid scheme.

The third charge was an allegation that Muringani failed to supervise the director of finance and his subordinates in the course of his role as town clerk which resulted in opportunities for irregularities.
