What makes the encounter an intriguing affair is that both teams have new coaches in their fold who were met with contrasting fortunes in their first assignment last week.
Beavan Gwamure took over from Tobias Mudyambanje at Town United and in his first game in charge against neighbours FC Strikers he was beaten 2-0 while John Nyikadzino, the new Chapungu mentor had a dream start in charge of the airmen when his charges mauled a hapless FC Platinum Under-19s, 3 – 0 at Ascot.
After the win Nyikadzino said the victory was a launch pad to the team’s championship charge.
He said his main aim was to see the team win games with consistency.
“This victory is the bedrock on which our championship campaign would be built and I have told the boys that we are still in the promotional race. Therefore the only way we can keep our championship charge on is to have consistency and we are looking for nothing short of three points in our next match against Town United,” Nyikadzino said.
His counterpart Gwamure said Maninja fans as Town United are affectionately known should not read much into the game as he is still on a rebuilding exercise.
He said, “At the moment people should not expect too much from the team since we have not yet added new signings that we have identified but it will be a good game.”
A win for Chapungu who currently lie third with 26 points will see the airmen maintaining pressure on log leaders Tripple B who have a tricky encounter against New Zimsteel today at Torwood Stadium.
