TRADITIONAL dance groups vying for the Chibuku Neshamwari title are expected in Bulawayo today ahead of the national contest at White City Stadium in Pelandaba tomorrow. The groups, Makarekare (Mashonaland East), Jahunda Community Arts (Matebeleland South), Gango (Masvingo), Budiriro Arts (Mashonaland West), Wundi Zambia (Midlands), Shingayi (Harare), Umkhankaso Wamajaha (Matebeleland North), Dhumatasangana (Manicaland) and Chinyakare (Mashonaland Central) will join Bulawayo’s Ezimnyama dance group for boot camp in preparation for tomorrow’s contest.
Chibuku brand manager — Karen Dhliwayo — said the groups would do their final rehearsals at the stadium today, to perfect their acts. Tomorrow, they will battle it out, performing various dances including Zambia’s Nyawu, Muchongoyo, Mbende, Dinhe and Umkhankaso.
The group which will come out tops will dance away with a $4,000 prize money.
Revellers will be spoilt for choice as more entertainment at the finals will be provided by Martin Sibanda and Ndolwane Super Sounds, Magwaza and 2013 Chibuku Neshamwari winners — Umkhathi Dance Group.
This is the first time in 52 years that the competition’s national finals are being held in Bulawayo, moving away from their traditional Harare base.
“Chibuku Neshamwari promises to set new records this year as the national competitions roar into life on Saturday.
“It’ll be a tough order for the judges to select the winners from this year’s lineup,” said Delta Beverages marketing manager Patricia Murambinda.
“The national finals at White City Stadium are where people should be this year. Our consumers will enjoy great entertainment, free of charge and get to interact with their favourite brand in a safe environment.”
Lucky imbibers will have an opportunity to sample Chibuku Super which has a shelf life of more than 21 days, as well as the traditional 2 litre Scud.
“This day will be particularly memorable as imbibers will be tasting the first brews of Chibuku Super and time tested Scud from our brand new production facility at Fairbridge Brewery, Umguza. This is a significant investment in the Bulawayo market and the region at large,” Murambinda said.
The 2015 Chibuku Super Cup traders and consumer promotion will also be launched at the stadium tomorrow.
The promotion will run up to October 25 with a Nissan Urva “16 seater” bus up for grabs. Those who will attend the competition will witness the final draw for the just ended Chibuku Take 2 Consumer and Traders promotion where the first prize is $20,000.
