Chiefs in Hurungwe yesterday protested at the district administrator’s office and disowned ousted former zanu-pf Mashonaland West provincial chairman Mr Temba Mliswa saying he should leave the area for bringing confusion and denigrating them. They also threatened to surrender their chieftainship apparel and badges should he fail to leave the area. At least nine of the 12 chiefs yesterday met Hurungwe district administrator Ms Tsana Chirau where they presented their grievances before questioning how Mr Mliswa would want to continue living in an area ruled by people he accused to be “drunkards and gluttonous” Kore Kore chiefs only after beer and meat during a campaign rally in Hurungwe. Three other chiefs did not attend as they are said to be not feeling well. Those who attended include Chiefs Nyamhunga, Dandawa, Mujinga, Nematombo, Kazangarare, Chundu, Chanetsa and headmen Shumbayaonda and Mudzimu.

Said Chief Dandawa: “As chiefs in Hurungwe District, we are deeply astonished at assertions peddled in some sections of the media that we are behind Temba Mliswa. We have queries on how he found his way into our land. We used to work with him when he was still in zanu-pf, but since he was expelled from the party we have nothing to do with him.”
Chief Chanetsa who sits in the province’s Land Committee said they did not issue Mr Mliswa with an offer letter for his Spring Farm but were surprised when he came with one.
In response, Mr Mliswa dismissed the chiefs saying they were coerced to make the statements by Local Government, Urban and Rural Development Minister Dr Ignatius Chombo who controls them.
